Spokemead Maintenance Limited, one of London’s leading providers of electrical, repairs and maintenance solutions, and one of the principal contractors for the region’s largest Borough, is pleased to share their support for PECKHAM A.B.C (Amateur Boxing Club), a grass-roots organisation dedicated to young people between the ages of 7 and 40.
Neil Rooney, Managing Director for Spokemead, comments: “We first learned of PECKHAM A.B.C at the Limehouse Boxing Academy’s inaugural Gala Dinner and Boxing Night. Dunhams, one of Kinovo Group’s subsidiaries, was a proud sponsor, and group attendees included Spokemead’s own Debbie Rooney, Finance Director, and Nicole Rooney, Commercial Director. The event was incredible, to say the least, and saw young people given the opportunity to pursue their passions in a truly exciting setting.

“Amongst its competitors were boxers from PECKHAM A.B.C, founded by Head Coach Iain Perriss. The club was established as a safe space for young people from the community, providing them with a range of competitive and keep-fit boxing, and they have gone above and beyond to maintain this.
“Learning about the history of this club from its founder was truly inspiring. Like every organisation, the club faced immense pressures during the pandemic. As they struggled to maintain a permanent venue, they had to move between a range of locations, yet every venue would eventually fall through. What’s more, with the cost-of-living crisis hitting everyone hard, Iain even allowed some members to attend for free, waiving the session fees to ensure they wouldn’t lose out.
“We saw that Iain’s values very much reflected our own, especially our values of Integrity and Reputability, and we were eager to help any which way we could. That’s why we reached out to Iain to see what we could do. Liam Power, Commercial Manager at Spokemead, met up to discuss the history of the club and its future, including ambitions to take on more young people from the Peckham area. Whilst there, Liam was also able to give Iain a donation of £2,000 towards the club, which Iain was grateful to receive. Later we were also able to pass on a further £2,000 that had been raised by Neil Rooney who reached out to various contacts, with a grand total of £4,000 going to the club.
“We understand the significant role organisations like this play. They provide young people with a sense of purpose and place and strengthen the communities in which they reside, an end goal we can certainly admire. These donations, we hope, will further the reach of PECKHAM A.B.C and allow them to provide new and exciting opportunities for more young people, in a safe space where they can make friends and gain valuable experiences that will truly enhance their lives.”
